Manufactured from stainless steel the four drums is fully enclosed only relying on the roof cowls to receive and discharge air. Instead of having a roof wall Branson and Coates design 11m in diameter air duct roof cowls also dressed in stainless steel. The cowls sit on top of the drums rests on steel rails fixed onto 130mm deep hidden concrete roof slabs and are driven to rotate to face prevailing wind. Fresh air is drawn in from the ducts wider opening while used air is discharged through the back opening of the cowls. The cowl movements are controlled by a computer. One of the cowls is fitted with an anemometer. The computer continuously monitors wind speed and direction to automatically move the cowls into any one of 15 positions, adjusted every two minutes.
