realistic | 3dsmax advanced ray trace shadow_______________________________________ realistic | 3dsmax area shadow
realistic | photoshop edited
To get softer edges for the shadow on the main floor and on the wall on the
upper level of the roof garden I decided to use the option "area shadows".
For the interesting reflections and shadows of the tree and the window frame
on the right, I considered the advanced ray trace shadow as more powerfull.
The shadow of the tree is made of a rectangle, to which I applied a surface
and uvw-map modifier. Furthermore I assigned an opacity map, a black and
white image of the tree, to the rectangle's material.
To get only the shadowof the tree in the rendered image, I turned off the
option "visible to camera" in the properties menu of the ractangle and ticked
the "force 2-sided" option in the common render menu.
As the material of the walls and ramps is actually just white plaster, it looked
much too clean in the first renders. Later on I assigned a "splat" bump map
and a "noise" diffuse color map to the material to give it a more dirty look.
abstract | picasso's original painting______________________Guernica, 1937
abstract | guernica photoshop
For the abstract image I have chosen the artist Pablo Picasso, who is one
of the most famous representants of cubism.
His painting Guernica is the most powerful invective against violence in
modern art, but it was not wholly inspired by the war: its motifs, the
weeping woman, the horse, the bull, had been running through Picasso's
work for years before Guernica brought them together. The painting is
entirely in black, white, and grey, so that despite its huge size it retains
something of the grainy, ephemeral look one associates with the front page
of a newspaper.
Guernica was the last great history-painting. It was also the last modern
painting of major importance that took its subject from politics with the
intention of changing the way large numbers of people thought and felt about
power.
For my abstract version of the roof garden image of Villa Savoy, I used different
filters and overlaying in Photoshop to immitate the colours and style of
painting of Picasso.
