Introduction
This is a project from semester 2003 last year.
The image is taken from a cross section of an
underground promenade. As the project's
perspective is hand rendered and due to shortage
of time, the project wasnt modelled 3-dimensionally.
Therefore, it is a good chance to test out the
spacial quality of my project thru this task.

Below is a hand rendering of the original project.

The idea of my project about underground promenade
spawned from the consciousness of melbourne's
developed CBD. Pirenasi's ideology and influence
was being incoporated into my design.

After 2 weeks...

Below is a section of my promenade
a basic model is set up to get the view that i want

This model is made without any materials on it.

The above image shows a model with applied materials
& lightings.

The great use of volume light. As my entire building is
underground, the only way to bring out the underground
experience is to cast an above-surface atmospheric
volume light through the skylight.

Final Rendering

A comparison between the rendered drawing and the 3D model

Final Image above
3D Max ver. 5
800 x 600 pixel

During the process of making this image possible,...
1 computer is used
1 tree is hidden in the image
2 target spot lights are used
3 cameras are set up
4 nights of sleep in the lab.
12 burgers are wasted
13 omni lights are used
91 objects created in 3D Max
169 hours used up to complete this image
240 minutes of my life wasted just to wait for the rendering everytime i make changes
600+ minutes wasted in rendering
countless brain cells died. ^_^

Abstract Rendering
Photoshop 7

The abstract rendering is produced by combining Pirenasi's
infamous underground labyrinth technique and my idea of how
underground environs should look like.

The main idea and focus here is the only ray of light that
penetrates into a void anywhere on a plane.

Note:
Personally, i think i have succeeded in bringing the intended
mood into the virtual realistic space that i have created
This is something which i would have done to my hand
rendered drawing if i could and i never thought it would
be possible for me to render such an image.haha. The
significance of this project is based heavily on the usage
of lighting effects.
