| Cityscape | mindscape : an interactive investigation of the spatiality and poetics of the metropolis. This rhizomic mapping will consider urban Melbourne as a city-text: a kaleidoscope of identities, architectural expressions, histories, commentaries, sculptural forms and manifestos. Our imagination grows cities and the resultant cognitive maps are infused with a palimpsest of collected meanings. The megastructure of the city will be sampled, yielding a subset of dynamic and eccentric spaces. The Flash interactive will prototype this network of city experience, feeding off a database of impressions to generate a patchwork miniature, reflecting the nature of mental maps. |

That Futurist architecture is the architecture of calculation, of audacious temerity and of simplicity; the architecture of reinforced concrete, of steel, glass, cardboard, textile fibre That oblique and elliptic lines are dynamic, and by their very nature possess an emotive power a thousand times stronger than perpendiculars and horizontals? EVERY GENERATION MUST BUILD ITS OWN CITY’ (Antonio Sant’Elia 1914) |

| OR ‘... in our modern architecture (allegedly "constructed for the human being") man's soul is oppressed. Therefore, the principle behind functional architecture should be rejected. We should instead adopt as the premise for improvement the slum principle, that is, wildly, luxuriantly growing architecture.’ (Friedensreich Hundertwasser , 1958) OR... |
