My Thoughts :
In these paintings, Gerhard focused on shift.
Shift of colour, density and shadow. I found the photograph of the church the most interesting.
It has the same idea Ritcher tries to convey. Creating mood and dynamic gestures by shift of light
and shadow density in the painting or photograph. This is achieved by the highest sun's exposure on
the column, and the church complex itself overshadowing the other part of the building. And on the
right hand side of the painting, the stand alone tree that might be overshadowed by an object in front
of it that blocks the sun's penetration.
