Thoughts on exemplification….hmmm.hmmm (finger touches head in a perplexed, contemplative manner). Exemplification can be thought of as a basic communication strategy used to negotiate the meaning in many different contexts, both spoken and written language. In reading textbook material the feedback-response steps are anticipated by the author of the instructional material who provides examples in anticipation of requests for further clarification from the reader. All acts of communication from poems to conversations can be viewed as being the ‘thing’ itself eg. a love poem or a convoluted conversation, at the same time as being an example of a thing ex. distant love, conversation involving writings by architecture philosophers! As a language learner, Iv have had the experience of participating in many a meaningful conversation and at the same time thinking "so that’s how it’s done" or "isn't that an interesting way to say it." You either have or you haven’t the skill to verbalise thoughts, this ability very much has the resemblance of a cosine graph in my existence. Peaks and troughs…sometimes I can sometimes I cant, sometimes I don’t feel like I have the right i.e enough knowledge to have an opinion, other times Im just completely influenced sometimes threatened.

If assigned an exemplification essay, ask yourself this question: in what area of your life do you see several examples that lead to an inference that can teach people? To begin organizing ideas for this topic, use the following outline:

I. Introduction that uses a highschool level strategy, tell how the subject came up, state the thesis in the pattern of the chosen topic, and name the audience who can benefit from knowing the information.

II. Body A. Example 1 B. Example 2 C. Example 3

III. Conclusion

It comes down to self-organisation. Organizing elements using this emphatic order above means that you organize the details, thus achieving coherence by using organization to present each of the categories or subtopics.
